Dr. Edward Jenner Wood was born in Wilmington, NC on June 12, 1878, the son of Dr. Thomas Fanning Wood. He attended the University of North Carolina Chapel Hill and received a medical degree from the University of Pennsylvania. Dr. Wood opened his own practice in Wilmington in 1903. During his career, he served as President of the North Carolina Medical Society and as a member of the North Carolina Board of Health. Dr. Wood was an expert in the study of tropical medicine, specializing in Pellagra and Sprue. He authored many articles, including "A Treatise on Pellagra," as well as entries in both The Oxford System of Medicine and in Nelson's Loose Leaf Medicine.
Dr. Wood was married to Louise Bellamy. He died on September 16, 1928, and is buried in Oakdale Cemetery.
