Gladys Sneeden McIver (1922- ) was born in the Sea Gate area of Wilmington, NC. She went to Isaac Bear School, and was in the New Hanover High School Class of 1939. She attended Peace College for a year, and was one of four women taking mechanical engineering classes at North Carolina State University. She was also the only woman draftsman working at the shipyard in Wilmington. She has been active in the Daughters of the American Revolution, the Cape Fear Garden Club, on the board for the YMCA, served as a "Pink Lady" at the hospital, and worked for the Azalea Festival for many years. Along with her husband, she co-founded one of the city's first independent insurance companies.
