Parker David Robbins (1834-1917) was born in Bertie County, NC and lived the last decades of his life in Magnolia, NC. He was a free African American in pre-Civil War North Carolina, and a prominent legislator, inventor, and shipwright. He held several U.S. patents and was a sergeant major for the Union during the Civil War. He built and piloted a steamboat for years along the Northeast Cape Fear River.
