Daniel D. Cameron (1921-2005) was born in Wilmington, NC. He is a graduate of New Hanover High School and attended the Virginia Military Institute, graduating as 2nd Lieutenant in the U.S. Army in 1942. Cameron served in World War II, arriving at Normandy Beach on D-Day. He returned to Wilmington after the war and became highly involved in business and civic affairs, serving as Mayor of the city at one point. Cameron also helped to revitalize industry in the area after the Atlantic Coast Line Railroad Company left the city. He was a longtime member of First Presbyterian Church and served as both a Deacon and Elder. He is buried in Oakdale Cemetery.
