Ivey Hayes (1948-2012) was born in Pender County, NC. He earned a Master of Fine Arts from the University of North Carolina Greensboro and become a well-known and widely-respected artist in the Lower Cape Fear region. To earn a living, Hayes worked at the Federal Paper Board in Wilmington, retiring in 1987. His work has been exhibited throughout the Cape Fear region, and he was included in Cameron Art Museum's "Five American Artists" exhibit in 2012. Hayes has also received national acclaim through a feature by Charlie Rose on PBS and a one hour special on QVC. He died of medical complications in 2012.
