Photograph of Dr. William Madison Randall.
Dr. William Madison Randall (1899-1984) was born in Michigan. He received an A.B. and an A.M. degree from the University of Michigan and a Ph.D from Hartford Theological Seminary. Dr. Randall served as Dean of Wilmington College for a period of time before serving as President from 1958-1968. He was instrumental in the development of the college and helped to lead the school away from its dependence on high school teachers. Dr. Randall was renowned in the field of library science; as a tribute to this reputation, the library at the University of North Carolina Wilmington (formerly Wilmington College) is named in his honor.
