John Golden (1941- ) is an accomplished local folk singer and story teller who writes many of his own songs to share the history of coastal North Carolina. He was born and raised in south Florida, and went to Duke University to study civil engineering. Through his travels he developed a love of old-time ballads and blue-grass music which influenced his own musical style. He moved to Wilmington, NC with the Army Corps of Engineers in 1977, along with his wife Mary Ellen, who runs the Golden Gallery at the Cotton Exchange and is a watercolor painter. He has long been involved with the Lower Cape Fear Historical Society, currently serving as their president. John Golden has produced many CDs of his music and stories of the region.
