The Reverand Gustave Hamilton Caution (1898-1980) was the pastor for St. Mark's Episcopal Church in Wilmingto, NC in 1926. Under his tenure in 1928 the church was granted parish status by the Diocesan Convention. He was Rector at several churches throughout the south, serving over twenty years at St. Matthew's in Savannah, GA. St. Mark's was the first Episcopal Church for African Americans in North Carolina. At the corner of 6th and Grace, it was organized in 1869 and consecrated by Bishop Atkinson in 1875.
