Thomas Henry Wright (1904-?) attended high school at Tileston in Wilmington, NC and transferred to the newly-built New Hanover High School, where he was president of his class. He attended Virginia Theological Seminary and in 1929, Wright was ordained to the diaconate in St. James Episcopal Church in Wilmington. On October 5, 1945, he was consecrated Bishop of the Episcopal Diocese of East Carolina and he headed the local diocese for twenty-eight years, retiring on December 1, 1973. At the time, he was the youngest bishop ever consecrated by the Episcopal Church.
