The Rev. William Hammond Milton, D.D. (1868-1946) was Rector of St James from 1906-1936. He was very involved in the National Episcopal Church, and worked as the field secretary. St. James received national prominence as a great missionary parish due to his work. He is remembered as an extraordinary teacher and missionary.
