Portrait of Dr. Robert Barnard Slocum.
Robert Barnard Slocum (1879-1933) was born in Reading, PA. He was educated in the school of New York and received a Doctor of Medicine from Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, MD. Dr. Slocum moved to Wilmington, NC when he accepted the position of Director of James Walker Memorial Hospital. In 1908, he opened his own practice in Wilmington, which operated until 1921 when he was offered the position of Superintendent and Medical Director of the Atlantic Coast Line Railroad Company. Dr. Slocum is also a veteran of both World War I and the Spanish-American War. He is buried in Oakdale Cemetery.
