Frank Green Harriss (1883-1953) was born in Wilmington, NC, the grandson of Thomas Davis Meares and Jane Moore Iredell Meares. He was educated in Wilmington Public Schools and received private tutoring from Professor Washington Catlett, instructor of Cape Fear Academy. Harriss began his career with the Atlantic Coastline Railroad Company and worked as traffic manager for the Aladdin Company. He entered the insurance and real estate field in 1921, and remained in this business until his death. He was a lifelong member of St. James Episcopal Church. Harriss is buried in Oakdale Cemetery.
