Portrait of Howard Lacy Armistead, Jr.
Howard Lacy Armistead, Jr. (1935- ) was born in Knoxville, TN. He graduated from Roanoke College and the Medical College of Virginia. Armistead interned at the James Walker Memorial Hospital and completed his residency at New Hanover Memorial Hospital. He operated a family and occupational medicine practice from 1968 to 2000, and was a full-time medical director of employee health at New Hanover Regional Medical Center. Armistead served a four-year term on the Wrightsville Beach Board of Aldermen and was Mayor from 1972 to 1973. He was elected to the Board of County Commissioners in 1978 and served until 1982. Armistead was also appointed to the New Hanover County Alcoholic Beverage Control Board and served two separate terms.
