Portrait of Raiford Graham Trask.
Raiford Graham Trask (1916-1993) was born in New Hanover County, NC, the son of George and Emma Trask. Following in his father's footsteps, Trask became the owner and manager of extensive farming interests in New Hanover County. When farming became less profitable, he began to develop the family land into subdivisions including College Acres, Long Leaf Acres, and Kings Grant. Trask was a co-developer of Figure Eight Island, Duck Haven Golf Course, and several shopping centers. Trask served as Mayor on the Wrightsville Beach Town Council and was appointed to the Board of County Commissioners in 1952. He was also a benefactor of Wilmington College (now the University of North Carolina Wilmington) and donated the land on what became College Road to the school. UNCW's gymansioum is named in his honor. He is buried in Oakdale Cemetery.
