Portrait of James Malcolm Hall, Sr.
James Malcolm Hall, Sr. (1878-1953) was born in Sampson County, NC. He moved to Wilmington, NC when he was eleven-years-old and attended Union School. He graduated from the University of North Carolina in 1900 and became a licensed pharmacist. Hall was the business manager of City Hospital in Wilmington, and he opened Hall's Drug Store in 1901. Hall served on the Wilmington Board of Alderman from 1913 to 1920, and was appointed to the Board of County Commissioners in 1930. Hall was so active in his neighborhood that he became known as "the Mayor of Dry Pond." He is buried in Oakdale Cemetery.
