James H. McKoy
James Hassel McKoy (1901-1964) was born in Wilmington and attended local schools. He was the producer/director of Paramount' s musical dramatic units in New York City, and achieved an international reputation for his staging of shows. He eventually managed theaters all across the nation. In Wilmington he restored St. John's Masonic Lodge and turned it into a tavern (1943-1955), and later into the St. John's Art Gallery. He became the manager/president of Thalian Hall and was an avid amateur historian of the Wilmington and Cape Fear region. His impressive collection of theater materials and clippings is now held at the New Hanover County Public Library. He is buried in Oakdale.
