Michael Davis, Oldest surviving Confederate Veteran in New Hanover County

Michael Thomas Davis (1846-1942) was the oldest surviving veteran of the Civil War in New Hanover County at the time of this photograph. He was born in Onslow County, NC and enlisted in the Confederate service in 1863 at the age of 17. He served with the command of Captain Humphrey and Colonel Simon Benjamin Taylor in General Ransom's Brigade,35th Regiment, Company A, from New Hanover County. Mr. Davis lost his right arm in the Battle of the Crater in Petersburg, VA. He is buried in Bellevue Cemetery.
