Portrait of Carl Thomas Durham, Jr.
Carl T. Durham, Jr. (1927-1990) was born in Chapel Hill, NC, the son of Carl Durham, who served in the U.S. Congress from 1939-1961. Durham attended the University of North Carolina and received a Master's degree in Ceramic Engineering from North Carolina State University. He worked as a Principal Engineer with General Electric in Wilmington for 37 years. Durham served as a member of the New Hanover County Board of Health for seven years and was instrumental in establishing the North Carolina Association of Boards of Health. He also served as a member of the North Carolina General Assembly's Public Health Study Commission. Durham was elected to the Board of County Commissioners in 1990, but passed away before he was able to take office.
