Henry Clay McQueen (1846-1935) was born in Lumberton, NC. He enlisted in the Civil War serving with Company D, first North Carolina Battalion heavy artillery. He was captured at Ft. Fisher in 1864 as it fell to the Federals. McQueen became a successful banker in Wilmington, NC, eventually serving as President of the Murchison National Bank. He was involved in many civic affairs, serving as president of the Wilmington Produce Exchange, Chairman of the Board of the Peoples Savings and Trust Company, and President of the Wilmington Clearing House Association. He is buried in Oakdale Cemetery.
