Burials

in this
cemetery

located

Market
Street
at
North
Twentieth
Street
, in
February
,
1867
.
It
contains
the
remains
of those
Union
soldiers
who
were
originally
buried
at
Fort
Fisher
,
Smithville
(Southport)
,
along
the
Cape
Fear
River
and at
points
along
the
Wilmington
&
Manchester
and
Wilmington
&
Weldon
Railroads
,
including
about
one
thousand
unknown
soldiers
. There are
many
African-American
Union
soldiers
buried
here.
