Series

popular

radio
became
wide-spread

Crowds
would
congregate
to
learn
the
latest
score
from
reporters
at the
Morning
Star
office
across
Chestnut
Street
. With a
large
megaphone
, they would
shout
news
of the
games
to the
baseball
fans
in the
park
. In the
background
is
the
eleven
story
Murchison
Building
. The
Murchison
National
Bank/Acme
Building
and The
Morning
Star
Newspaper
Building
are
located
in the
100
block
of
Chestnut
Street
. A
number
of
1920s
era
autos
are
parked
on
Chestnut
Street
. The
massive
stone
post
office
with
tower
and
fine
Romanesque
detailing
was
built
on this
site
in
1889-91
. The
architect
of the
building
was

Freret
,
supervising
architect

U.S
.
Department
of the
Treasury

Memorial
or
Armistice
Day
display
is
on the
lawn
in
front
of the
post
office
. To the
right
of the
building
is
Post
Office
Alley

which
runs

Bank
