Dr. Solomon Sampson Satchwell (1821-1892), son of James and Elizabeth Windley Satchwell. He was married to Elizabeth Vanderveer of New Jersey; Ann Victoria Moore, daughter of Alfred L. Moore of New Hanover County; Sara Bell, daughter of Fletcher Bell of New Hanover County. He attended Wake Forest (M.A.) and the University of City of New York. He was in General Practice in Rocky Point, North Carolina from 1865-1892. Notable accomplishments: Anatomy Instructor, University of the City of New York; Surgeon, CSA, commissioned October 8th, 1861; worked to establish Pender County, North Carolina; organizer of North Carolina Medical Society, 1849; promoter, North Carolina Board of Health and the North Carolina Board of Medical Examiners; first President of the North Carolina Board of Health; President, North Carolina Medical Society, 1868; leader in health care in North Carolina. He died of typhoid fever, October or November 9th, 1892. |
