Plaque Text	House built for Michael Hooper (1830-1877), lamplighter and drayman; and wife, Julia A. (1841-1906). He was founder of Wilmington's Emancipation Day Celebration in 1874. The Structure was altered to Neoclassical Revival style in c. 1902 when purchased by Dr. John H.W. Mask (1874-1905); and wife, Maggie B. Sampson (1875-1918). The Community Hospital Nurses Home and School was located here from 1932 to 1938. The building was the residence of Salome Taylor, R.N. (1892-1964), who served as the first African-American female director of nursing from 1922 to 1951 and superintendent of the hospital from 1926 to 1940.
